Position: Director, School of Teacher Education
Rank: Associate Professor or Full Professor

Description:
The Director of the School of Teacher Education is a 12-month position with responsibility for the leadership and administration of the School, which is housed within the College of Education. The School offers elementary and secondary credentials as well as graduate programs in curriculum and instruction and reading/language arts and courses in a joint doctoral program. Specific areas of the Director's responsibility include program and curriculum leadership; faculty development and workload assignments; faculty and support staff personnel evaluations; external relations with public school partners and with the wider community; master scheduling and coordination of course offerings; and budget matters related to the instructional program and support services within the School.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate in one of the subject areas of teacher education, such as curriculum and instruction, literacy, foundations, teacher education, or multicultural education. Exceptional candidates may have an earned doctorate in one of the education support areas outside teacher education, e.g. educational administration. The candidate must have experience in leadership and team building with ethnically diverse faculty and staff, and in facilitating communication and collaboration among faculty from a variety of educational disciplines. The candidate must also have a successful record of professional development, research, and scholarship. Prior experience in making retention, promotion, and tenure decisions is also required. The candidate must have demonstrated effectiveness in meeting the educational needs of socio-culturally diverse communities and have a demonstrated commitment to social justice, including the promotion of equitable access, participation and success in education for all students. Further, the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to facilitate the development and implementation of a vision for the School of Teacher Education. The candidate must demonstrate a record of successful leadership and administration in either higher education or the K-12 public school setting and experience in effective teacher preparation programs, such as field-based programs and/or professional development schools. Prior successful teaching in a K-12 setting and in a higher education teacher preparation program is highly desirable. Experience in grant procurement and management also is desirable.
