Asian American Studies Program

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking a Director for the Asian American Studies Program, an interdisciplinary academic program that coordinates a wide range of research, teaching and public service activities centered in the humanities and social sciences. Established in 1997, the Asian American Studies Program, is made up of six core faculty and eight affiliated faculty. The College and the Campus support the future growth and expansion of the Program.

The Director’s primary research interests will be in the study of Asian American experiences in any discipline. The Director stimulates research on Asian American topics, supervises the administrative office of the Program, and promotes the development of Asian American related courses. The Director also facilitates inter-disciplinary communication and scholarship among the faculty. The Director generally represents and advances the interests of the Program on and off campus, and cultivates external funding resources. The Director reports to the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

The Director will hold a tenured appointment as Associate or Full Professor in the appropriate disciplinary department. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. or other appropriate terminal degree, have national scholarly standing in Asian American Studies, and have administrative experience. Salary, rank and starting date are negotiable. The preferred start date is August 21, 2002.
